Curatorial Statement
“I find myself needing to do laundry literally every week. I dread spending my time going up and down to my apartment complex’s basement laundry room. It’s often sticky, always damp and recently lifeless. While I’m waiting to throw my laundry in the dryer, my focus drifts to the pastel pink and blue still life prints that have been haphazardly thrown around to add “character” to the space. And then it struck me, why must there be boring art down here. Doing laundry is such a universal experience; whether you are stuck spending time at the Laundromat or handing off your clothes to the cleaners, doing laundry is THE human experience. It’s the highs of getting a tough stain out of your jeans or meeting your next best friend. And it’s the lows of getting your underwear stolen or shrinking your favorite sweater. And what better way to explore this experience than through the perspective of regional artists.”
